Harry Brook declared superior to Sachin Tendulkar as the former Indian coach made an outrageous claim

Harry Brook’s rapid rise in the world of cricket made him an overnight sensation. England’s star batsman has been brilliant in all formats so far making him one of the players to watch out for in the future.

Former India head coach Greg Chappell is so impressed with Harry Brook that he compared him to the great Sachin Tendulkar. Chappell compared their records and even claimed that Brook was ahead of Tendulkar in the first few Tests of their respective careers.

The former Australian captain also compared the strength and body structure of both the players and called Brook more powerful than Sachin. It should be noted that Brook has the added advantage of great height while Tendulkar was of short stature.

Greg Chappell believes Harry Brook is ahead of Sachin Tendulkar

Writing for his column in the Sydney Morning Herald, Greg Chappell compared the early stats of Harry Brook and Sachin Tendulkar and claimed that the England youngster is ahead of the legendary India.

“Harry Brook, a batting sensation whose performance and approach I liken to the great Sachin Tendulkar. Incredibly, Brook’s early career stats suggest he may have even surpassed the Indian maestro in terms of output at the same stage,” Chappell wrote in his column.

Chappell also dissected their batting methods and argued that both are not moving too much at the crease initially. He feels that this ability makes these players score runs from most balls, be they good or bad.

“At just 25 years of age, Brook has quickly become one of the most talked about cricketers in the world. He boasts a simple yet devastatingly effective batting method. Much like Tendulkar in his early years, Brook does not move too much at the crease before that the ball was delivered,” Chappell explained.

“His stability and minimalist technique allow him to read the pitcher’s angles and adjust his shots with precision. The result? Outstanding scoring ability from most shots, whether full, short or awkward length,” he said. added.

Greg Chappell further compared Sachin Tendulkar and Harry Brook in their first 15 Tests. He also feels that Brook has a stronger frame, but both batsmen had the ability to manipulate pitches and play different shots with similar deliveries.

“Tendulkar’s early brilliance lay in his ability to use a bowler’s speed to his advantage, scoring powerfully from both sides of the wicket. Brook, although a physically bigger and more powerful player, has an incredibly similar ability to manipulate the pitch with arm movements, crisp shots and punishing back-foot shots.

Comparing the statistics of both players, Chappell claimed that Brook is already ahead of Tendulkar. However, it must be noted that Tendulkar faced a formidable bowling attack during his time in tough batting conditions, while Brook batted mostly on flat tracks.

“It’s a simple method, but simplicity often breeds greatness. A comparison of their first 15 Tests reveals an eye-opening story. Tendulkar scored 837 at an average of just under 40, with several centuries. Brook, in contrast, made 1,378 runs at an average of almost 60, with five hundreds,” the former Australian captain pointed out.

“To be fair, Sachin was still a teenager while Brook is in his mid-20s. Brook’s ability to combine aggression with consistency makes him a nightmare for bowlers as, like Tendulkar, he is incredibly difficult to contain,” he added.

Harry Brook’s test numbers

Harry Brook scored 8 hundreds and 10 fifties and was named player of the series in England’s recent Test series in New Zealand. So far he has scored 2281 runs in 24 Tests at an average of 58.48. He scored all his runs at an incredible 88.37.
