Newcastle chasing Isak’s £50m partner who is ‘the perfect January signing’
Newcastle United have been riding the crest of a wave for the past month, riding a seven-game winning streak that has dropped them to fifth place in the Premier League.
A convincing 2-0 win at the Emirates on Tuesday night also produced a result Eddie Howethe team leads in the semi-final match of the Carabao Cup. Arsenal are a great team, but they will need a two-goal win at St. James’ Park only to take the game to penalties.
Magpies fans are on the edge of dreamland at the moment, but they know the ebb and flow of football could drag their team out of the ascendancy if opportunities are not taken this month.
Alexander Isak there is scored 14 goals in 15 games and “is the best striker in the Premier League at the moment”, according to the words expert Jamie Carragherbut he needs more support and Newcastle must act.
Newcastle are eyeing a January signing
Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy have been excellent of late, and while the former is one of the Premier League’s most prized wing-forwards, his right-back peer is prone to erratic form and needs competition at 29.
Good, according to The and PaperNewcastle are still tracking the Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo while sporting director Paul Mitchell considers the winter offer.
The Cherries hardly want to sell their deadliest attacking spot and they valued it at 50 million poundsbut Newcastle need another piece to complement their rich front line and maybe make Isak even better – imagine that.
Think Antoine Semeny and Alexander Isak
Bournemouth signed Semenyo from Bristol City for £10m in January 2023, and in the last two years it has grown stronger, becoming a “key player” – as Jacob Tanswell of Athletic said – in the advanced system of Andoni Iraola.
Hailed as “almost impracticable in its day”. reporter Ed AaronsSemenyo has been one of the main men at the Vitality Stadium this season, he announced seven goals in 21 Premier League games as Bournemouth exceeds expectations, currently nestling in seventh place, above Manchester City.
Murphy has been in good form this term, but Semenyo has greater technical quality up front in the final third as well, ranking in the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wings in the Premier League this year for shots on goal (4.24) per 90, according to FBref.
This could be just what Isak needs, as the Swedish star is much more than just a goalscorer, perhaps the most complete striker in England.

Semenyo and Isak are 25 years old and could therefore form a permanent partnership in St. James’ Park, and the electric Anthony Gordon Jr. is still 23 years old.
Isak has of course been incredible this season, scoring at a devastating rate over the past few months and beating Mohamed Salah to the Premier League Player of the Month award for December.
Newcastle’s talisman may not be as devastating in front of goal as Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, for example, but he definitely brings more to the table.
According to FBrefthe £120k a week ranks among the top 12% of Premier League forwards in the 2024/25 season. for assists (0.25), top 8% for shot creation actions (3.69) and top 5% for successful takeovers (1.60) per 90, showing the skills that make him the protean, slippery customer that he is.
A successful takeover is scored when a player beats his opponent by passing the ball directly past him, retaining possession.
Moreover, Isak created seven big chances this season and averaged 1.7 key passes per match in the first league, according to Sofascorealso in the thick of the action with 34.8 touches on average, which is high for a center forward.
He drops deep, impacts play and pushes forward at lightning speed to create a sense of synergy that most teams can only dream of – usually after being blown away by the Magpies.
With Semenyo being a goal-scoring winger who fires volley after volley at his foes, this could be the kind of dynamic duo Howe likes – just look at how it works with Gordon on the alternate wing.

This did not hold throughout the campaign; Newcastle struggled through the first kicks. However, Howe’s tactical mind came through once again, with the interpersonal skills on display to get the whole squad on board.
Murphy is hard-working and talented in his own right, but Semenyo would bring something different that could do wonders as Newcastle head back into European competition next season.
It’s a move Newcastle must make. Although £50 million is a huge sum, Newcastle are prepared to spend a lot to achieve their goals. Further to that point, right-winger Miguel Almiron is expected to be sold either this month or at the end of the season, alleviating PSR concerns and freeing up space in, look at that, Semeny’s empire.
Will Newcastle do the deal? Analyst Ben Mattinson described Semenyo as “the perfect January signing” for any top team when discussing Arsenal’s Bournemouth intrigue, but Newcastle have already dealt a blow to the Gunners’ season on the pitch and could translate their ploy into the market this month.
