Liverpool have struck gold on a “superstar” worth more than Kvaratskhelia

Football is a funny business. Liverpool entered the January transfer window chanting the usual mantra: Arne Slott‘with that he is talented, deep and capable, FSG it would only work if that perfect market opportunity presented itself.

Well, there is. Although the club’s most pressing transfer concerns are spread across the backline, Liverpool are ready to pounce and sign one of Europe’s most talented left-backs, for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia may be on the move this month.

Liverpool’s plans for January transfers

It emerged on Thursday that Paris Saint-Germain are keen to sign Kvaratskhelia from Napoli this winter and that the Georgian is ready to leave the Serie A top-flight side.

Napoli are keen to splash €80m (£68m) on their prized striker, yet Liverpool have made their interest known and are weighing up an unlikely hijack, according to The Athletic.

The Premier League The leaders are already well stocked at the top, but this could be an opportunity too good to pass up – as well as hinting at the potential sale of Darwin Nunez or Federico Chiesa, both were connected to the exits.

Kvaratskhelia would be an amazing addition, but Cody GakpoHis recent form gives rise to the idea that the 23-year-old may not even earn a starting role from the outset.

The machine got gold on Cody Gakpo

Gakpo, 26, is playing the best football of his Liverpool career under Sloto, developing into one of Liverpool’s biggest goalscoring threats and linking up well with Mohamed Salah, who already assisted the 26-year-old nine timesthe third highest total in the Egyptian’s Reds career.

Everything turned out well. Gakpo spent the opening months of the campaign battling Luis Diaz for a left-wing spot in the Premier League, but has now made it his own with the Colombian’s multi-talented skills serving him well in a sort of makeshift, Firmino-esque central role.

He flattered Liverpool against Tottenham last time out, but you can’t argue with Gakpo’s role in the overall success this year, especially when you consider that he has sharpened his already sharp attacking edge to a cutting edge.

One of the most important points of improvement this term has been via Sloto’s (correct) assessment that Gakpo is at his terrifying best when deployed on the left flank, thanks to his precise finishing and expert ball-swinging ability.

All 18 Netherlands starting places they are surrendered on the left flank this season, and is starting to show why there was such a buzz around the world when he featured at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, putting Liverpool on notice of his skills.

The £68m-rated Kvaratskhelia would be a credit to Liverpool’s front line, perhaps even a necessary signing if one of Nunez or Chiesa is sold this year, but Gakpo is thriving at the moment and his quality is too great to be relegated to a minor role.

Actually, according to the CIES Football ObservatoryDutch national team player – who has Carl Anka from The Athletic tagged as “superstar” – is currently valued at £91m, a higher estimate than the club’s current target of some £23m.
