Chakravarthy made an incredible comeback to the Indian team in the T20Is on the back of his heroics in the IPL. He was at his best in T20Is against Bangladesh as well as against South Africa and even found his form in domestic cricket too, playing for Tamil Nadu.
Chakravarthy bowled quite well in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. He is Tamil Nadu’s leading wicket-taker in the series and has a strong case for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, especially as he worries the batsmen with his variations.

Aakash Chopra spoke about the rumors that Varun Chakravarthy is in the running for selection for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He pointed out how the spinner has done well in the domestic circuit, asking who will replace him in the team if he is selected? Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:
“Varun Chakaravarthy is taking wickets one after the other. He was good in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. He took five wickets against Rajasthan and is doing well all the time. Ever since he came back to the Indian T20I team, he has picked up wickets every time,”
“The rumor market is hot, the atmosphere in Indian cricket has become so because we are getting a lot of news based on sources and few of them are coming true, that Varun Chakravarthy might be selected for the Champions Trophy. If he is selected, who will come out – Ravindra Jadeja? That is what I heard.”

Aakash Chopra also spoke on reports about Ravindra Jadeja’s ODI future, saying that Chakravarthy could be added in his place with Axar Patel being the all-rounder. He added:
“I hope I didn’t hear it but now it has come up that Ravindra Jadeja might not be picked and you might see Varun Chakaravarthy in his place in the XI. There is a strong possibility. So you will see Axar instead of Jadd.”
