Ange and Tottenham ready for cup as Aussie coach admits FA Cup is still ‘very important part of calendar’
Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou is looking forward to meeting National League side Tamworth in the FA Cup this weekend.
Spurs travel to the competition’s lowest-ranked left side, with one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history on the cards.
But despite playing against much weaker opposition than the side they beat on Wednesday, Postecoglou admits he won’t be able to rotate too much and is taking the FA Cup very seriously.
Addressing the media, he said: “I still think this is a very important competition. It covers almost every level of football and there are always great stories inside.
“There were already such stories in the early rounds of the cup, and we are facing a side that went through the early rounds.
“I still think that cup final day is the main day on the global football calendar. I feel like it’s a really important tournament that keeps the right kind of tradition going.
“Certainly in my eyes, I see it as a very important part of the calendar.”

“I have no doubts about the attitude of the players. All the boys understand very well that every game is important. We go into Sunday’s game with the same mindset of doing the things we can control and putting a lot of emphasis on the things we do really well.
“There are always challenges. I’m sure Tamworth will think it’s a big opportunity for them and we have to be ready for it.”
Spurs go from one end of the football pyramid to the other in a matter of days.
During the week, they beat Liverpool 1-0 in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final, handing Arne Slot his first away defeat of the campaign.
Now they must adapt to a team that will be looking to create a memory that will last a lifetime by knocking out the Premier League giants.
Postecoglou added: “”They are not multi-million dollar players. They are very understanding human beings. They are good people. Most of them came from such places, some worse than that.
“They will go there and respect the fact that Tamworth will build it for probably the biggest game of their lives. And I am sure that they will do their best to create an atmosphere in which they will be proud of their field and their facility.
“I really don’t think it’s a problem for us. What is important for us is to prepare for an important cup match.”
