Ruben Amorim reveals who is to blame for the interview with Marcus Rashford

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has pointed the finger at Marcus Rashford’s surroundings as he has been advised to do an interview about his future at the club.

After Rashford was dropped from the matchday squad for the Manchester derby, he went public with his desire to “a new challenge“, admitting that his departure from the club was a matter of “when”, not “if”.

Amorim has since left Rashford out of his last two squads but has refused to close the door on the 27-year-old, who he believes should reconsider the advice of those close to him.

“This is a difficult situation,” Amorim said Sky Sports. “I understand that these players have many people around them, who make decisions that are not the first idea of the players.

“I’m always here to help Marcus as another player. I have to do what I have to do. They chose to do the interview because it’s not just Marcus. I understand that. As a coach I focus on the performance and the way you train, it’s better for me and for the club to deal with it when the time comes.

“Right now I’m focusing on improving Marcus and we need a talented guy like Marcus. Now I forget the interview and see what I see on the field.”

United are reported to be willing to sell Rashford in 2025 for around £40m, slashing their previous valuation of £100m in a bid to convince clubs to move for the out-of-form striker who earns more than £300,000-a-week.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is prepared to stay out of the whole situationhappy to let Amorim deal with the selection issues despite the conundrum his constant omission of Rashford can cause.
