Dinesh Karthik ousted Rohit Sharma when he declared the best captain in the world


Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has named Australian star pacer and skipper Pat Cummins as the best captain in the world at the moment, dismissing Rohit Sharma’s achievements as India captain.

Rohit led India to a historic victory in the T20 World Cup in June 2024, while Cummins’ leadership was nothing short of outstanding. Since taking over as Australia’s captain in 2021, Pat Cummins has led Australia to the ICC Test World Cup title and the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Adding to his accolades, Cummins also captained Australia in their first Test series win over India in a decade. The Australian cricket team secured a 3-1 victory in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. despite a rocky start with a massive 295-run loss in the first Test to win the prestigious trophy after more than a decade.

And Cummins led Australia from the front in the five-match Test series, taking 25 wickets and scoring 159 runs against India. Recently, Dinesh Karthik hailed Pat Cummins as the most aggressive cricketer in the world, not by words or actions, but by his confident body language and composure.

Highlighting Cummins’ leadership qualities, Karthik was delighted with how the Australian captain manages the media and handles situations before and after the match. The former Indian wicketkeeper said that Cummins has that aura and quality of leadership in his blood and the way he conducts himself on and off the field, he deserves applause and respect.

Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Karthik noted that Cummins is showing how he should be the perfect leader, and that he is currently the best captain in international cricket, saying that he has the ability to lead a group of people.

Dinesh Karthik said in the latest episode of HeyCB with DK on Cricbuzz: “I feel Pat Cummins is the most aggressive cricketer on the planet right now. And he doesn’t do it with a story or an insult. He does it with his body language, the way he deals with the media, after games and before games. He has the ability to lead a group of people, and for me right now he is the number one captain in the world.”

However, Cummins is likely to miss the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which starts on February 19 in Pakistan. The Australian pacer is scheduled to have a scan on his sore ankle and the results will decide whether he can take part in the eight-nation tournament. Namely, the Champion’s Trophy returns after a seven-year break.

Earlier, Dinesh Karthik defended Rohit Sharma for his unexpected interview during the Sydney Test, despite the fact that he was not part of the XI against Australia. Karthik stated, “Knowing Sharma, I think he gave that interview because there was a lot of news going around.”
