Bob Davis, a longtime voice Kansas Jayhawks Basketball and football, she died, his family confirmed on Friday via the KU’s Athletic Department. He was 80 years old.
Davis died just a week after his wife Linda’s death for over five decades. The cause of death was not released immediately. Kansas basketball Chief coach Bill Self remembered Davis as “selfless person.”
“Bob was not only superior in his craft, but was also a great, modest and selfless person who gave so much to himself so much,” Self said. “Our hearts go out to the whole family, especially with his beautiful wife Linda, who last week last week.”

Jayhawks has been upset by the seventh seed this week in Arkansas in NCAA Tournament. Davis’s mandate for broadcasting in Kansas began in 1984 and lasted until his retirement in 2016. He added a voice to some of the biggest sports moments at school.

There was a team of the 1988 national championships known as “Danny and Wonders” for his star, Danny Manning, led by Coach Hall of Fame Larry Brown. And a team of national titles 20 years later, led by himself, which became known for his “Mari’s miracle”. Mario Chalmers’ binding 3-Boda forced an extension against Memphis in the finals.

Davis covered Jayhawks eight trips to Final Four, six games in football and thousands of football and basketball games in a regular season. Many spent with Max Falkenstien, his predecessor, and later his colleague and close friend, who spent 60 years before retiring Jayhawks. Falkenstien died in 2019.
Former Kansas and North Carolina Coach Roy Williams described Davis as the “Diva” of the University of Kansas.

“Bob Davis was a fantastic announcer and he loved the house,” Williams said. “I was a new coach, and he helped me immensely. He set up a tape for all those I worked with later. He is a hook for the house.”

Davis also called a female last four for CBS six times and spent 16 years inviting himself Kansas City Royals Games on radio and television. He was named Kansas Sportsaster in 14 times.
Davis survives his son Steven, daughter -in -law Katie and four grandchildren.
