When the attack happened, James rented a room at Dick’s house, which was about 10 miles north of Orlando. Neuner and three other children were at home at the night of a deadly attack, although the other three were not saved.
Before returning to his room in the house, court records showed that James had drank up to 24 beers and some alcoholic beverages and took LSD.
Neuner is raped and strangled to death, while Dick was stabbed 21 times. After killing them, James stole women’s jewelry and her car, then drove across the country to Bakersfield, California, where he was arrested on October 6, 1993.
