In a common address Congress, Trump said his administration “had already started” working to get control over the channel that connects the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Oceans.
“Just today, a large American company has announced that they are buying both ports around the Panaman channel,” Trump said, calling on to agreement between the investment group led by Blackkck and Hong Kong CK Hutchison.
The contract of Chinese companies in Panama has previously been singled out by US legislators as an example of Beijing’s crawling of spread to Central and South America.

“The Panaman Channel was built by Americans, for Americans, not for others, but others could use it,” Trump said in US capitol, adding that “it was built at huge costs of American blood and treasure.”

Panama gained control of the channel only in 1999, more than 20 years after the then President Jimmy Carter signed a 1977 contract, which enabled Panami possible control over key waterways.
“That agreement was violated very seriously,” Trump said in his address on Tuesday. “We didn’t give it to China. We gave it to Panami. We bring him back.”
Administration efforts to “reciprocate” control over the Panaman channel lead American Secretary of State Marco Rubiowho attended Trump’s address and received fans when the president acknowledged his role in the efforts of the Panaman Channel.
