Former Bronx, New York The owner of the living room was sentenced to 45 years in prison after the child died in her care of swallowing fental in September 2023.
United States Lawyer for Southern New York District announced on Monday that Grei Mendez had acknowledged guilt in October Fees, including conspiracy Distribute narcotics resulting in death.
The charges arise from the death of 22-month-old Nicholas Dominic, who was exposed to Fentanil in kindergarten.
Three other children also suffered serious injuries and had to be hospitalized after the authorities found two two-year-olds and an 8-month-old girl who did not respond, in the basement of the Bronx Kindergarten Institution.

Dominic’s mother, Zoila Dominic, faced Mendez in court and “will never forgive her” for what she allowed to happen to her son, reported New York Post.
“It is not possible to forgive like this. Forty -five are not enough,” Dominica said during emotional testimony.
“Don’t forgive you. Let God forgive you,” Dominica continued.
During the previous regulation, it was revealed in court that Mendez had Narci in kindergarten but did not try to revive the children, according to the US lawyer’s office for the southern district.
“She had the key to help these children, and she didn’t use it,” said Maggie Lynaugh, a federal prosecutor in court on Monday.

When the first liability arrived, Mendez did not mention that children could suffer from an Opioid overdose, the appeal said.
“Grei Mendez managed a kindergarten from an apartment in a basement in Bronx, where large quantities of deadly fentanil were mixed, packed and stored,” said Matthew Podolsky, an act of the State Attorney in the Southern District of New York.
“She put babies at the age of eight months directly at the expense while they were sleeping, playing and ate in a room where more than 11 pounds of fentanil were hidden under her feet, leading to the death of one child and poisoning others.”
According to the appeal, indictment and other documents, from about 2022 to September 2023, Mendez and others conspired to distribute narcotics from Divino Niño in Bronx.

Officials said that Mendez and her co -believers held more than 11 pounds of fental and heroin in secret compartments or traps, located below the floor tiles in the living room playroom.
Outlet reported that Dominica in the courtroom was crying as prosecutors remembered the last moments of their son.
When asked to address the court, Ottoiel Feliz, Dominika’s husband, said, “She let her only son die. She did nothing.”
“We didn’t just lose Nicholas. We lost our lives,” Feliz added.
Outlet reported that Mendez told the court that “it was never my intention” for Children who are poisoned.
“I want everyone to know it was an accident,” Mendez said, while using the Spanish interpreter.
She then claimed to “know the suffering” that Dominics felt, because she is the mother herself and that she is closed from her four children.
“Believe me, this left me traumatized,” Mendez said. “I can’t delete it from my mind.”

One of the conspirators, Mendez’s husband, Felix Herrera Garcia, was arrested in September 2023 in Sinaloi, where Mexico’s drug trade cartelOnce Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán operated, he is based.
The other arrested arrested were 38-year-old Renny Antonio Parra Paredes, also known as “El Gallo”, and Mendez’s neighbor, Carlisto Acevedo Brito, both charged with conspiracy of distribution of narcotics resulting in death.
Brito, like Mendez, has also been charged with Distribution of narcotics resulting in death.
“No penalty can make up for a child lost, but today’s penalty sends a message that this office and our partners will be tirelessly working on justice to everyone who uses children as a shield in drug trade,” Podolsky said.
