The first black Republican congress woman dies
Mia Love, the first US black Republican congress woman, died at the age of 49 in Utah, her family announced.
On Sunday, she passed away calmly, surrounded by family at her home in Sarathoga Springs, according to a statement.
Love, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, represented the state of Utah in the House of Representatives.
Her daughter Abigale said earlier this month that love no longer responded to the treatment of brain cancer.
“In the midst of the celebration of her life and the avalanche of happy memories, Mia quietly slid the band’s mortality and, as her words and visions always worked, has grown to the sky,” said the family statement, which was published on X.
By publishing the homage of love, Utaha Spencer Cox Governor wrote: “A true leader of the search and visionaries, Mia inspired the myriad of Utahns with her courage, grace and unwavering belief in the American dream.
“Her legacy leaves a lasting, positive impact on our country. We will miss us deeply.”

Her death comes for almost two weeks after love wrote OpinionWhat she said was “not to say goodbye, but to say thank you and express your living desire for you and the America I know.”
