The fire at a nightclub kills at least 51 in northern Macedonia


At least 51 people were killed and 100 more injured when the fire broke out at a nightclub in northern Macedonia overnight, Maria Miteva, a government spokeswoman, said on Sunday.

Minister of the Earth Interior, Panche Toshkovski, said press conference That the flame broke out during a pop concert at the club in the eastern town of Kocani. He said the fireworks was triggered, which made the roof on fire.

“This is a difficult and very sad day for Macedonia,” North Macedonia’s Prime Minister, Christian Mickoski, wrote on x. “The loss of so many young lives is irreparable, and the pain of family, loved ones and friends is immense.”

Flame details could not be confirmed independently. The city is about 50 miles east of the capital, Skopje.

Government’s Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a short statement That officials in Kocani were still working on assessing the number of victims.

Angela Aggler, US Ambassador in the country, wrote on x“My heart breaks down this morning because of many victims of last night’s fire at a nightclub in Kochani.” She added, “The loss of so many young lives in one community is a terrible tragedy.”
