Gardner and his family announced Miller’s death in a statement on Sunday.

“With heavy hearts, we are sad to publish the passage of our youngest son, Miller. He was 14 years old and left us too early after we got sick with several other family members while on vacation,” their statement read. “We have so many questions and so few answers at the moment, but we know he died peacefully in his dream in the morning on Friday, March 21.

“Miller was a beloved son and a brother and we still can’t understand his life without his infectious smile. He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, family and friends. He lived a life to the greatest extent every day.”

Yankees also published a statement about Miller’s death.

“Our hearts are heavy and the Yankees family is filled with sadness after learning about Miller Gardner’s passage,” Tim said. “Words feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss. Not only Brett, who literally grew up in this organization for over 17 years – as well as his wife Jessica and their two boys, Hunter and Miller.”
