Texas woman accused of performing illegal abortion


A midwife in Houston was arrested for allegedly providing illegal abortionsThe first arrest under Texas’ ban on almost total abortion.

Maria Margarita Rojas, 48, who identified herself as “Dr. Maria”, has been charged with an illegal abortion performance, a second -degree crime, as well as practicing medicine without permission, Texas lawyer Ken Paxton reported.

“In Texas, life is holy,” Paxton said in a statement. “I will always do everything in my power to protect the unborn, defend the laws on the pervadeing of our country and to work to ensure that unlicensed individuals threaten women’s lives by performing illegal abortions are completely prosecuted.”

“The Texas law that protects life is clear, and we will hold those who violate it responsible,” he added.

Rojas allegedly managed a network of a clinic in the Houston suburbs Waller, cypress And spring. The clinics “unlawfully employed by unlicensed individuals who have falsely introduced themselves as licensed medical professionals,” said the Paxton office.

Rojas herself is charged with illegal abortions in clinics, violating the Law on the Protection of Human Life from Texas of 2021.
