Taiwan says stricter measures are required to suppress Chinese infiltration | News about politics

Taiwanese President Lai Ching-Te claims that China deepens his “influence campaign” to the island.

Taiwanese President William Lai Ching-Te says China deepens his campaign for spying and infiltration against the island and that his government will propose various measures to confront Peking’s efforts to “absorb” Taiwan.

In an interview with journalists after meeting with security officers on Thursday, Lai said Beijing was trying to nurture relations with members of Taiwanese society, including groups of organized crime, media figures and police officers.

“They [China] They perform activities such as division, destruction and subversion from us, “Lai said.

He added that stricter measures were needed to counteract the Chinese efforts to weaken the island defense, citing recent incidents that belong to the “gray area” of the psychological war, except for the conflict of open weapons.

Lai said that, according to Government data, 64 people were charged with Chinese spy last year, three times more than 2021. He said most are current or former military officials.

“Many are worried that our country, hard -to -acquired freedom, democracy and prosperity, will be lost little by little because of these campaigns of influence and manipulation,” he said.

The President has proposed 17 legal and economic countermeasures, including a strict overview of visits to Taiwa people or applying for a stay by Chinese citizens and proposals to continue the work of the Military Court.

Lai also said his government would “need adaptation” to the flow of money, people and technology throughout the strait. He didn’t work out.

Beijing believes that Taiwan is part of his territory, but the ruling democratic progressive party on the island favors the continuation of de facto independence from the mainland.

China rejected almost all the official contact with DPP from the predecessor of Lai, Tsai Ing-WenHe was elected eight years ago. The two sides separated in the middle of the Civil War in 1949.

Recent showers

Taiwan recently expelled the Chinese wife of the Taiwanese citizen after posting several clips on social networks, saying that China would win Taiwan in half an hour and praise the Chinese lead.

Such works are unlawful under the Taiwanese law on the support of the enemy. The woman, who also held official Chinese titles as an advisor, can re -apply for a residence in five years.

Other recent incidents included Taiwanese artists and influencers living in Chinese statements from Chinese state media who claim Chinese sovereignty over Taiwan-not seeing Taipei as a continuous pressure on pop stars to give Pro-Beijing comments.

Lai said his government would issue “reminders” to Taiwanese actors and singers who perform in China on their “statements and actions”.

“We have no choice but to take more active actions,” he said.

Retired members of the Taiwanese service also transferred information about the island weapons to the Chinese agents and sought to hire the service of military members as spies, he said.

China regularly sends ships and aircraft into air space and water near the island in an effort to intimidate its 23 million people and carry its armed forces and morals.
