Houlihan’s sentence eventually cost a trip to Paris at the Olympic Games and now has to work twice as much as she can prepare for a potential appearance in Los Angeles 2028.
“Getting used to trying to create a new normal,” Houlihan said. “Running was part of my life since I was five, so who did I do without this? I didn’t know.
The 32-year-old family from Iowa said she hoped her success could lead to a sponsors. The outdoor World Cup is set for September.

Houlihan competed again in January to compete again, and last month she returned to the track in Razorback invitational In Arkansas. She won in a closed race at 3,000 meters.
