Relatives of the Duterte drug murder victims react

Duterte’s arrest and decline was amazed at the families of the victims of his bloody decay against illegal drugs and drove them to tears.

“This is a big, long -awaited day for justice,” said Randy Delos Santos, an uncle of a teenager by the police during a drug against drugs in August 2017 at the Manile Metropolis, said Associated Press.

“We now consider justice to roll. We hope that top police officers and hundreds of police officers involved in illegal murders should also be put in custody and punished,” Delos Santos said.

Three police officers who killed his nephew, Kian Delos Santos, were convicted in 2018 for a high profile murder, which is why Duterte temporarily suspended his brutal drug against drugs at the time.

The condemnation was one of at least three, so far, against the staff for the implementation of the law involved in the drug campaign, reflecting the concern of the family of victims of suspicious extra-judicial killings that they would not receive justice in the Philippines, which led to their decision to seek ICC assistance.

Long history of drug killings under Duterte

ICC explored drug killings under Duterete dated November 1, 2011, when he was still the mayor of the southern city, until March 16, 2019, as a possible crime against humanity. In 2019, Duterte withdrew the Philippines from the Roman Statute in the Human Rights Activist’s move to say that they were aimed at avoiding responsibility.

Duterte administration went to suspend a global court investigation at the end of 2021, noting that the Philippine authorities had already considered the same allegations, claiming that the ICC – the last means – had no competence.

The appeal judges on the ICC were ruled in 2023 that the investigation could continue and reject Duterte’s complaints. Headquartered in The Hague, the Netherlands, ICC can enter into it when countries do not want or cannot prosecute suspects in the most treacked international crimes, including genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

President Ferdinand Marcos JR However, Marcos’s administration announced that she would cooperate if ICC asks the international police to take Duterte to custody through the so -called red notice, a request for law enforcement agencies to find and temporarily arrest the criminal suspect.
