Filipin police arrested the former president Rodrigo Duterte in Manila Tuesday and sent it to planes to the Netherlands to face the charges of crimes against humanity International Criminal CourtSaid President Ferdinand Marcos.
The Hague Global Court ordered Duterte’s arrest via Interpol after accusing him of crimes against humanity for deadly decay against the drug he was monitored while he was in office, Marcos said at a late -night press conference. Duterte was arrested at the Manila International Airport on Tuesday morning when he arrived with his family from Hong Kong.
Walking slowly with the reed, the 79-year-old former president briefly turned into a small group of helpers and fans, who cried and forgave him, before his escort helped him on the plane.
His daughter, Vice -President Sara Duterte, said she was looking for her entry into the air base where her father was detained, but that she was rejected. She criticized Marcos’s administration over the surrender of her father to a foreign court who currently has no jurisdiction in the Philippines.
Marcos said that the arrest of Duterte was “right and correct”, not an act of political persecution, because they are Filipa’s member of Interpol.

Among the scariest leaders in Asia while in power, Duterte became the first former leader from the region to arrested a global court.
Dressed in a dark jacket, the furious Duterte protested his arrest after his arrival in Manila and asked the authorities to be a legal basis for his custody. His lawyers immediately asked the Supreme Court to block any attempt to translate it from the Philippines.
“Show me now a legal basis for mine to be here,” Duterte power asked in a remark, recorded by his daughter Veronica Duterte, who posted the recordings on social media. “Now you have to respond to deprivation of freedom.”
The arrest of surprises caused crowds at the airport, where Duterte’s lawyers and assistants protested that they, along with the doctor, were prevented from approaching him after taking him to police custody. “This is a violation of his constitutional law,” Senator Bong Go, a close ally of Duterte, told reporters.

An ICC arrest warrant, which saw Associated Press, said “there are a reasonable basis for believing that the” attack on the victims “was both widespread and systematic: the attack occurred for a few years, and thousands of people seem to be killed.”

Duterte’s arrest was needed “to ensure his appearance before the court,” said the order of March 7th. “Given the resulting risk of interfering with the investigation and the safety of witnesses and victims, the Chamber is convinced that Mr. Duterte’s arrest is required.”
In a short statement after the plane took off, the ICC confirmed that one of his pre-chambers issued an arrest warrant for Duterte on charges of “murder as a crime against humanity allegedly committed on the Philippines between November 1, 2011 and March 16, 2019”
The families killed by the glory of arrest
Duterte’s arrest and the fall were encouraged by the families of the killed victims of his tears. Some gathered in a street rally to welcome his arrest.
“This is a big, long -awaited day for justice,” Randy Delos Santos told AP. His teenager’s nephew was shot by police at the Dark Riversida alley during a drug against drugs in the suburban town of Caloocan in August 2017.
“We hope that top police officers and hundreds of police officers involved in illegal killings should also be put in custody and punished,” Delos Santos said.
Three police officers were convicted in 2018 for the murder of his nephew, Kiana Delos Santos, which prompted Duterte to temporarily suspend his action.
The condemnation was one of only about three so far against the law that participated in the drug campaign. Former Senator Antonio Trillanes, who led the appeal against Duterte before the ICC, said the arrest is historically, which is a major blow to the state’s strife and tyrant.
“This is like the fall of the Emperor,” Trillanes told AP. “The next step is now to ensure that all his followers who have committed criminal offenses like him should also be counted.”

Duterte’s government tried to block the ICC probe
ICC began to investigate drug murders under Duterte dated November 1, 2011, when he was still the mayor of Dava, until March 16, 2019, as a possible crime against humanity. In 2019, Duterte withdrew the Philippines from the Roman statute, the founding of the court, in the move, the human rights activists say that he was aimed at avoiding responsibility.
Duterte administration went to suspend a global court investigation at the end of 2021, claiming that the Philippine authorities had already studied the same allegations, claiming that the ICC – the last court – was therefore not competent.
The appeal judges on the ICC were judged in 2023. The investigation could continue and reject the complaints of Duterte. With headquarters in The Hague, the Netherlands, ICC can enter into it when countries do not want or cannot prosecute suspects in the most serious crimes, including genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who inherited Duterte in 2022, decided not to join the global court. However, Marcos’s administration said she would cooperate if ICC asks the international police to take Duterte to custody through the so -called Red Notice, a request for law agencies around the world to locate and temporarily arrest suspected of a crime.
