Pope Francis ‘Warning’ after respiratory failure, says the Vatican
Pope Francis is awake after suffering two episodes of “acute respiratory failure on Monday afternoon,” Vatican said.
The doctors were forced to intervene to clean the mucus from the pope’s lungs, an update from Sveta Sece was said, although it was said to be awake all the time.
The 88-year-old Pontif continued the use of oxygen masks and fans to help his breathing, but remains “awake, focused and cooperative,” Vatican said.
This is now the third serious fall since the 88-year-old PontiF was admitted to the hospital 18 days ago with pneumonia.
On Friday, Pope Francis suffered an “isolated” breathing crisis that included vomiting, Vatican said.
Updates from Holy Visages reported that he responded well to oxygen therapy, and the Vatican officials said on Sunday that the Pope no longer demanded “non -invasive mechanical ventilation, only high -flow oxygen therapy.”
After the episodes on Monday, Pope Francis continued this mechanical ventilation.
His illness meant that Pope Francis could not personally bring out his traditional Angelus prayer For three weeks in a row, and the Vatican announced his written comments instead.
Officials said the text, sent from his hospital room in Rome, was written “in the last few days.” In it, the Pope thanked the people for their prayers and thanked his medical team for their care.
The Catholics have already visited the Gemelli hospital in Rome to pray for him – hoping that he might come to the window, as happened in the past.
But although the Vatican recently described the Pope’s condition as stable, it remains too ill even to welcome the crowd below.
Pope was admitted to the hospital on February 14 After you had difficulty breathing for a few days.
He was first treated with bronchitis before it was diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.
The Pope is especially sensitive to pneumonia, lung infections that can cause bacteria, viruses or fungi, after contracting pleurisi – pneumonia – as a young man and had a partial removal of the lungs.
The Vatican sources emphasize, as they have all the time, that the Pope’s condition remains complex – his doctors remain careful – and he is not out of danger.
