Indonesia uses a sowing cloud to stop heavy rain because the floods affect Jakarta | News floods

Indonesian authorities use the sowing of clouds to relieve heavy rainfall that caused strong floods in the capital, jakarta and surrounding areas, killing at least one person and moving thousands.

The stream, which began on Monday, influenced Jakarta, home about 11 million people, along with the neighboring cities of Bogor, Bekasia and Tangarang.

Authorities said it could last until March 11 and had preventive measures to reduce further damage.

At least 2,200 people are displaced and some seek roof safety or use ropes to go through growing water.

Cloud headquarters, a technique that includes the release of salt or other chemicals in the clouds to start rain, aims to take rain from flood areas or limit the formation of heavy showers.

The surgery is expected to continue until Saturday, focusing on the mountain areas in the West Java province, where rain often falls into the capital.

“We cannot prevent rain, it is impossible, but we can reduce the intensity,” Dwikorita Karnawati, head of the Indonesian Meteorological Agency, said on Tuesday. “We can’t let the clouds get too big, so we’ll lower it a little by a little.”

Rescue teams arranged rubber ships and supplies to help in the worst affected areas, evacuating residents or helping those who reluctantly leave their homes.

Jakarta, a low town, is prone to floods during the wet season, which runs from November to March. In 2020, the rains of rains launched devastating floods and landslides in the region, killing almost 70 people and moving thousands.
