Heathrow’s London Airport temporarily closes due to the “significant current break”


Heathrow’s London Airport has announced that it will be closed on Friday after experiencing a “significant current break” due to the fire.

“Due to the fire in the electric substation that supplies the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a significant interruption of current,” said Heathrow UA Airport Post on xsaying that “passengers are advised not to travel to the airport.”

It was unclear exactly how much flights were immediately affected. The airport said it would be closed until midnight on Friday at a local time.

London Fire Brigade said 10 fire engines and about 70 firefighters are dealing with fire in electric substation in the Western London city of Hayes near the airport. The cause of the fire is unknown at this point.

“The fire has caused an interruption of electricity that affects a large number of homes and local companies, and we closely cooperate with our partners to reduce disorders,” said Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne UA statement in which he described the fire as “a very visible and significant incident.”

Goulbourne said firefighters were taken by 29 people to safely from nearby estates, and about 150 people were evacuated.
