Ey restructures its legal hand in the UK, causing a fresh circle of job reduction and speeding up the withdrawal of a large four from its previous ambition to take most of the lucrative sector.
In a fast-convened 12-minute call on Tuesday, Ey Partners told the Lawyers of the UK company that the company had removed its legal operations and launched a counseling counseling, three people who knew about the matter said.
About 30 out of about 160 people employed in Ey, in the UK, it would be influenced by a reduction in work, said one close to the company. Some jobs would be moved to the hub in Manchester and Belfast, according to another person with knowledge of the call.
Although many in the industry have predicted that large four accounting and consulting companies – Ey, Deloitte, KPMG and PWC – disrupt the market when they set legal practices decades ago, the group’s enrollments are limited.
Ey -‘release follows the previous decreasing jobs in his legal business in the UK, sitting in the company’s tax department, including Closing the Riverview Act and the release of most staff in business based in Manchester, which the accounting company purchased in 2018.
EY’s legal arm has decreased in recent years, with a practice involved in a circle of 150 decreasing jobs in December 2023, which also influenced Ey-Parthenon, its strategy and transaction.

Ey said he “made proposals for restructuring business in the UK, focusing on strategic areas with greater alignment with wider business EY business by providing integrated services to our clients.”
Restructuring will increase EY legal capacity in corporate law, a company secretary, tax disputes and immigration, but “unfortunately would result in a decrease in roles in other areas of British law,” said the company.
EY’s pressure on legal services began in 2014 when Big Four was licensed to work as an alternative business structure (ABS), a setting introduced in the UK in 2011 to allow non-fees to own and manage law companies and lawyers. KPMG and PWC also got ABS licenses that year.
As part of Ey’s “Project Everest”, a plan for division and consulting globally, the accounting group observed a significant expansion of its legal practice and maintained talks 2022. With a series of law firm in the UK on potential combination, according to one person with knowledge of discussions.
Everest, who would liberate lawyers and advisers from the Conflict of Interest Rules that prevent them from representing the company audit clients, was Finally abandoned in 2023.
Despite the lack of success in the UK, some of the big four are now looking at the opportunities in the US as the market opens.
KPMG became the first in a group to have permission to practice in the United States approved after the Arizona Supreme Court in February.
