A plane with former President Filipina Rodrigo Duterte arrived in the Netherlands where he will face the charges crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for its deadly “war against drugs”.
Duterte was arrested at Manila Airport on Tuesday, and for several hours he was at Chartred Jet, who flew to the Hague via Dubai, where ICC sits.
AND The 79-year-old could become the first Asian former head of the state to judge at ICC.
Duterte, who challenged his extradition, led the Philippines from 2016 to 2022 and chaired a violent “drug against drugs” in which thousands of small dealer, users and others were killed without trial.
The Gulfstream G550 landed in Dubai stopped early Wednesday, and his expected departure was postponed for several hours, while Duterte received medical checks, Reuters news agency reports.
Once he landed in Rotterdam, ICC confirmed that Duterte was on board.
Earlier, ICC said he would take custody of Duterte and schedule a hearing for his initial appearance before the Court.
The chief political rival of Duterte, current President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, was crucial in tradition. A few minutes after Duterte left Airspace in the Philippines, Marcos gave the television address, saying that the country fulfills its legal obligation.
“That’s what the international community expects us to do,” Marcos said.
The Duterte and Marcos families are the most powerful political dynasty of the Philippines. They joined forces to hit the latest national elections in the country in 2022, but have passed in recent months while implementing separate programs.

Vice President Duterte said her father’s arrest meant “abduction”, claiming that he had violated the Philippine sovereignty. She left Manila to the Netherlands on Wednesday, according to her office.
Rodrigo Duterte has previously insisted that ICC has no jurisdiction over the Philippines, since he pulled the land from Tribunal in 2019, three years after he recorded an increase in death in the drug war.
But according to the Roman statute, which is the basis for the ICC, the court maintains the jurisdiction of the alleged crimes committed before the nation leaves the tribunal.
The ICC investigation includes 2011-2019, which includes a period where Duterte was the mayor of Daul, widespread metropolis in the south of the country, where his family has been holding power for decades.
Appeals filed against Duterete on a claim of ICC that he held the “death of death” on his heads to go after drug suspects in Davau, and later repeated this model at the national level when he was elected president.
Human Rights Watch called Duterte’s arrest “a critical step for responsibility on the Philippines”.
