All evidence suggests that Thomas Tuchel is likely to decide on a fourfold when he is in the first game as the main coach of England against Albania at Wembley.
This will surprise many fans of England – and many Chelsea Fans – since his preference for his time at Stamford Bridge was very extreme for a system containing three centers and two wings. Tuchel opted for that system for 87 percent of his Chelsea matches.
However, if you look at his entire club career of 426 league matches for Mainz,, Borusia Dortmund,, Paris St-Germain,, Chelsea and Bayern MunichYou can see that he chose a straight four by 75 percent of the matches. His tendency is clear.
And if you look at the composition of this team in England – and, indeed, the resources on Tuchel’s disposal generally, when all players are appropriate and available – then there is a strong case that suggests that four of England would best fit England.
Why the back four fits England better
Let us drizzle into that a little more detailed. To play with three or back five, you first need three central classes. And more in reserves for covering absences and bad shapes.
If we are brutally honest, it is a position that England has struggled to find consistency for many years. I am sure that the three central backs will be an option that Tuchel will consider when certain situations occur – against the specific strong opposition that can play with two attackers; If England has certain injuries problems; Maybe in matches, if he wants, for example, to switch things.
But smart money would be at Tuchel, who opted for a straight four for most of his reign as the head of English football – he also represents a philosophical and pragmatic ideal.
