Crawford: Canel’s avoidance of Benavidez rooted in ‘Mexican’ disrespect, not boxer skill
Terence Crawford does not believe that Canelo Alvarez has avoided the fight against David Benavidez all these years, as many fans do. Crawford (41-0, 31 ko) says Alvarez decided not to fight Benavidez because he was “An additional disrespect“According to him.
Terence notes that Canelo (62-2-2-2, 39 ko) fought against other fighters who were motionless, but he personally took it because Benavidez is a “Mexican” and went a little further with his snacks. It’s not really a Mexican. Benavidez is an American and has half ecuadia and half of Mexican root. Not from Mexico.
Avoiding benavidez
Fans do not buy this excuse why Canelo did not fight Benavidez. They just see that Alvarez does not want to fight someone who will probably beat him and maybe knock him out. This is the same reason why Canelo decided to fight Dmitry Bivol when he went to 175 three years ago, not Arthur Beterbieva, when he fought for the world title in 2022.
It is not a shock that Crawford paints a positive picture, why Canelo didn’t fight Benavidez, because it’s okay to face him on September 13th. The last thing Crawford should come to Canel’s bad side and make him fight with himself. This is Crawford’s retirement money for this fight. It would be interesting if Terrence started a bad Mouping Canelo, saying it how it is, and then stubbornly refuses to fight in September. Where would Crawford go?
“When you look at the history of Canel, there were many of them about all the dishonest fighters. There were many. Everything fought against them. From Shane Mosley to Lara, Danny Jacobs and Saunders,” said Terrence Crawford Ring Magazine About past opponents of Canela Alvarez.
“When you look at all the fighters who were dishonest to Canela and he was still fighting them. I think that from the Mexican stop, when you have two Mexicans, and one additional disrespect for another, he took more personally in the race aspect than in sports,” Crawford said about why he believed Canelo decided not to fight Benavidez.
“He took the sport out of him and decided that he would not give Benavides the salary he wanted only because he felt something different at that moment,” Crawford said.
