Cheltenham Festival: Marine Nationale beat Jonbon in the champion of Mother Chase Chase Showdown in Cheltenham | Racing news

There were emotional scenes at the Cheltenham Festival because Marine Nationale honored the memory of the late Michael O’Sullivan, galloping on the champion of the Queen Betmgm Chase Glory.
O’Sullivan will always be inextricably linked to the stable star of Barry Connell, after the eight -year -old led the success of supreme novices in 2023. And barely a month after the tragic death of a young Joker after injuries suffered in the fall in Thurles, Morina Nationale returned to victory in Prestbury again.
Sent 5-1 secondary favorites in Sean Flanagan’s hands, Marine Nationale drove in the middle pack while the double winner of Energumen headed to the front and quickly joined the Quilixos and Forward Solnelness.
There was a real drama in the fifth duration, when Nicky Henderson’s Favorite 5-6 Jonbon made a mistake that ultimately paid for his chances, and the rest of the field felt the opportunity, as Flenagan moved his goal to the ideal position to hit the hill after three.
Energumen’s challenge would soon throw out, with Quilixos and Marine Nationale seemed to fight with the goal, but after the last time he jumped in accordance with, the accusation of Henry de Bromhead crushed to landing, to leave Flenagan and Marine Nationale to give up on the trump card.
For his merit, Jonbon held a second, but was about 18 lengths, which was an emphasized winner, who provided the most appropriate feature of the winner in the second day.
Connell said, “She is very strong and very raw, the whole thing with Michael in the last three or four weeks has been absolutely horrible, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family, his friends and his girlfriend.
“I think this is him, we hope, honoring him.”
Jimmy du seuil makes the light of a long absence for the land coral cup
Jimmy du Seuil went out to the top while Willie and Danny Mullins joined with great effect at Coral Cup in Cheltenham.
The six-year-old had a 16-1 chance when returning from a long absence from the track, and the last race arrived in Punchestown in May last year.
It was also his debut with a handicap, but none of these factors stood on his way and took the lead immediately after the last flight and accelerated against the hill to beat the imposed toi for three lengths.
The winning rider Mullins quickly praised his uncle: “It was a training on after a year from the track and had a nice form with Ballyburn. But it was his first time here, and to jump so well through the race, I was obviously delighted.
“All Willie has a chance to win, which makes our job easier. I missed the third time, but on the whole I took them off the back. My first winner of the Festival for Willie and I am obviously delighted to have done it.”
Stupumptown Storm home to persuade a victory at Cross Country
Gavin Cromwell observes a crack at Grand National Glory after Stumptown was duly delivered when he started his favorite for Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase in Cheltenham, and Keith Donhue collected a strong late charge.
In a race that extends over three kilometers and five and a half and includes 31 efforts in the jump, Cromwell’s eight-year-old followed in December and success in a fine style.
All the obstacles were certainly navigated by Stumptown, who looked convenient and obviously controlled when he turned the final bandage, before he had strongly overcome from seven lengths to 5-2.
Cromwell said, “I was very worried for a while to be honest, but in the end he ran out of a good winner. I think Keith thought he wasn’t at best either, but we’ll take it.
“He obviously loves race races and Keith is definitely worth a few pounds around that path, that’s for sure.
“We’ll emphasize him to Grand National. He’s coming soon, but all is well, he’ll go there.
“It’s narrow, but the race was on nice ground today and a lot of twisting and turning. I don’t know if so many of them need as a traditional chase for a handicap where these are extreme things.”
Latinightpass was second, while the Stupumptown stablemate of Vanillier also advertised his claims about Aintrea when he arrived with a damp sail under Sean Flanagan to take third place.
Cromwell added: “Vanillier went a little wide early, which certainly didn’t help his thing. I didn’t get the opportunity to talk to Sean, but he lost a lot of ground when he started running.
“And he’s in the country and I think he should get in, and he’s also the plan.”
