Lightweight heavy Ben Whittaker (8-0-1, 5 Kos) faced veteran Liam Cameron (23-6-1, Kos) in a rematch two months from April 20 at the World Arena Resorts in Birmingham in England.
It is unclear why the two of them even strive for a rematch, because Whittaker, 27, showed that he wanted to come from their previous struggle when he grabbed Cameron, causing two of them from the ring in the sixth round. Whittaker claimed that he had hurt ankle and legs during the fall, but fans suspected he was faking him and just wanted from the fight.
Flop watch
The fight has shown that the Olympic silver Whittaker of 2020 cannot withstand pressure and solid shots. The same is that we saw him in his loss from Cubin Arlen Lopez. When the Cuban talent attacked him hard, Whittaker melted like butter. What we saw in Cameron’s struggle was identical to the Lopez Olympic match. Whittaker embarked on pieces when Cameron began walking him, who ignored the moves without Long by Lonky, a fighter similar to the time and hit him hard in the head and body.
Out of the ring, Whittaker talks about a big game but was pure jelly against Arlen Lopez and Liam Cameron. He looked scared in both fights. Between the rounds, you could see that Whittaker was desperate for help, looking at his corner for instructions to throw him out in those struggles. Nothing his coach could do except that he was barking the instructions that Whittaker had not followed.
Is it worth it?
Whittaker -O’s promoter made a mistake by choosing a rematch with Cameron because this guy is wrong. He has a wrong style, strokes too much and has a toughness around him that Whittaker can’t stand. If Whittaker’s promoters look at this fight as a decision whether to hold it or reject it as a useless luggage, the rematch makes sense. It’s a good test to decide if Whittaker is worth it.
If I were a Whittaker promoter, I would have thrown it right after the Cameron fight. I would see everything I needed from that conflict and from his thawing against Arlen Lopez at the Olympic Games to know it was a waste of time.
