President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that has sanctioned the International Criminal Court after accusing him of targeting USAl.
The measure sets the financial and visas of limitations to individuals and their families who help with ICC investigations into American citizens or allies, said the White House before signing.
In January, the US House of Representatives voted for the sanctioning of the ICC after issuing an order for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoava Gallant for charges of war crimes in Gaza, as Israel denies. ICC also issued a warrant for the Hamas commander.
At that time, ICC said that “he regrets every attempt to undermine the independence, integrity and impartiality of the court.”
Now they have not repeatedly rejected the ICC member of any jurisdiction by the body against US officials or citizens.
The command of President Trump, signed on Thursday, accuses the ICC based in The Hague of created “shameful moral equivalence” between Hamas and Israel by issuing an order for the Israeli leaders and Hamas commander at the same time, states in the list of facts circulating the White House earlier.
He also says that ICC places the restrictions on Israel’s right to self-defense while accusing the body of ignoring Iran and anti-Israeli groups.
Trump has repeatedly criticized the ICC and took a few steps to sanction the body during his first term in power.
At that time, he also made sanctions on ICC officials who investigated whether US forces committed war crimes in Afghanistan.
The command allowed the US to block the ICC employee’s assets stop them from entering the US.
In response, ICC said sanctions were “an unacceptable attempt to interfere with the rule of law.”
Founded in 2002 – after the dissolution of Yugoslavia and the Rwanda genocide – ICC was formed for exploring alleged crimes.
The court can be engaged in crimes committed only after July 2002, when the Roman statute – which formed the ICC – entered into force.
Over 120 countries ratified the statute, while 34 more signed and can ratify in the future.
Neither now, Israel is a party in the Roman statute.
ICC is the last court and is intended to intervene only when national authorities cannot or will not prosecute.
Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, also criticized the ICC orders for Netanyahu and Gallant, calling the move “furious” and saying that there is no equivalence of Israel and Hamas.
