The planes are diverted while China is conducting a rare military exercise near Australia
The aircraft flying between Australia and Novi Zealand are diverted while China is carried out by a closely starchy military exercise in nearby waters that can include live fire.
The rare presence of three Chinese Navy ships in Tasman Sea has put both of the anti -July of the country in Tasman Sea in recent days, and Australia has called it “unusual”.
Qantas Australian Air Force company told the BBC that “temporarily adjusted” the routes of its planes and other carriers allegedly did the same.
China said that the exercise, which takes place in international waters, is in accordance with international law.
The ships are now reportedly 340 nautical miles east of the coast of the new southern Wales in Australia, although at one point they approached 150 nautical miles from Sydney.
Australia and New Zealand have carefully monitored the Chinese fleet – frigate, cruise and supply tanker – from last week, and sent their ships to watch them.
Earlier this week, the Minister of Defense of New Zealand Judith Collins said that China had not informed them that they would send war ships in their region and “they did not imagine us advise us about what they were doing in the Tasman Sea” New Zealand Herald.
Meanwhile, the Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles said that the presence of ships “is not unprecedented, but it is an unusual event.”
The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed on Friday that they were doing naval training and “distant waters” exercises.
“The exercises were performed at any time in a safe, standard and professional way, in accordance with relevant international laws and practice,” said spokesman Guo Jiakun.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that the Chinese fleet had issued a warning on Friday that it would start exercising exercises that could include a live fire.
“This is an activity that happened in the waters in accordance with international law … There were no immediate risks of the danger of any Australian property or New Zealand property,” he said.
But Marles said the Chinese did not directly informed Australian officials when they extinguished the warning.
“What China did, she announced that she intended to get involved in a living fire, and under that I mean the show picked up by airlines, literally commercial planes flying across Tasman,” Said Australian broadcast Corporationadding that such notifications will usually be given 12 to 24 hours in advance.
On Friday, the Emirates Emirates aircraft informed the Chinese authority exercise while still in the air while flying from Sydney in Christchurch. BBC is looking for a certificate.
In a BBC statement, Qantas confirmed that he had changed the routes of his planes flying across the Tasman Sea and said he was constantly monitoring the airspace.
“We continue to work with the Australian Government and across the industry in the surveillance of the situation,” he added.
Virgin Australia and Air Novi Zealand reportedly did the same.
The drill comes just days after Australia and China held a defensive dialogue In Beijing, where, among other things, they talked about military transparency and communication.
Two countries recorded several recent tense maritime meetings.
Earlier this monthCanberra said the Chinese fighter plane had released flashes in front of an Australian military aircraft as he flew over the southern Chinese sea. Beijing said the aircraft “deliberately imposed” into her airspace.
In May last year, Australia has accused the Chinese fighter jet to reject the flashes near the Australian Navy helicopter, which was part of the UN Council of Security Council on the Yarbin.
AND In November 2023, Canberra accused the Beijing Navy of using the sonar impulses in international waters outside Japan, resulting in Australian divers suffered injuries.
