Sweden plans to firmer weapons laws after the shooting at the Orebbro school

The Swedish government has announced plans for the austerity of the Law on Weapons, for days after the worst mass shooting in the history of the country.

The rifle, who killed 10 people on Tuesday and at the Adult Educational Center in Orebro, had four legal ownership rifles – three of which were found at the school, police said.

The Swedish Coalition of the Right Center said she would seek to increase the check of weapons licenses and limit access to a semi -automatic weapon.

“There are certain types of weapons that are so dangerous that they should only be possessed by civilians as an exception,” the government said.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristsson, visiting Latvia, told reporters: “We have to ensure that only the right people have a weapon in Sweden.”

Swedish Democrats said it agreed with proposals to amend the law, including larger limitations to a semi -automatic weapon.

“The terrible act of violence in Orebbro raises several key issues on arms legislation,” the party states in a statement.

The AR-15, a special semi-automatic rifle style that is powerful and can wear large magazines, has singled out the government as an example of weapons that could be limited.

Police did not say exactly what weapons were used in the attack, but the AR-15 was used in many mass shootings in the US.

They confirmed that several long rifles were found at the site of the attack in Orebbro, along with 10 empty magazines.

According to current Swedish weapons laws, anyone over 18 years of age who do not have a criminal letter can apply for a rifle permit, gun or semi -automatic rifle.

They have to justify the police why they need a gun. People over 20 years of age can apply for a special dispensation to own a complete automatic weapon.

About 580,000 Swedes have a permit for a weapon of about 10.5 million inhabitants, according to the Swedish Emitter Svt.

The 2017 Switzerland Study revealed that there are about 2.3 million rifles held in Sweden held by civilians. It is about 23 rifles per 100 people, compared to 29 in Norway and 120 per 100 in the US.

In order to obtain a hunting license in Sweden, a theory and a practical test is required. About 280,000 Swedes have one.

Police have yet to publicly identify the victims of the attack in Orebbro, but said they hoped to conclude the identification procedure and publish on Friday.

Among the dead, towards families and members of the community, were Syrians who fled the war there as refugees, as well as one Bosnian.

Police have not yet said anything about a killer possible motive. Members of the Syrian Orthodox Community in Orebro told the BBC that they were afraid that he was chaired by hatred of foreigners.

Sweden has a relatively high level of weapons ownership and weapons crime, according to European standards, although most weapons are legally owned and used for hunting.

The crime of weapons is generally associated with gangs, which they also took into the use of bombs to target each other.

A weapon crime that does not relate to gangs is less rare, and the attack on Tuesday was the first shooting at school and its worst mass shooting. A total of four people were killed in two separate stitches at school in 2015 and 2022.
