Romanian President Klaus Iohannis resigned after pressure to step down before the re -launch of the presidential elections, which were controversial last year.
The vote in December was canceled by the highest Romanian court after charges of interfering with the Russian state.
Going Iohannis, Pro-eu Liberal, he said he would remain in power until the heir was elected in May.
But this was strongly criticized by extremely right politicians and their supporters, who in the first round of voting performed well in the first round of the vote.
Their criticism encouraged tens of thousands of Romanians to take to the streets last month in protest against the cancellation of the election.
Opposition lawmakers on Monday re -launched a proposal to the parliament to move to the President’s suspension.
In response, Iohannis said he would deviate, in an attempt to limit what he said he would be “harmful” and a divided referendum for the Earth.
“In order to spare Romania and Romanian citizens from the crisis … I resigned from the Office of the President of Romania,” he said. He said he would officially give up on Wednesday.
