Cathary Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani says regional challenges “require coordination”.
The Qatari Emir spoke with President Iran in Tehran in the midst of high tensions in the region, starting a national visit that is expected to include a meeting with the Supreme Leader of the Earth.
“It is my pleasure to visit Iran today in a time when the region testifies to many challenges and development that require coordination,” Sheik Qatar Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani said on a joint briefing with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday.
Pezeshkian said the countries have strong relations and have “similar views regarding the region and international issues.”
The meeting comes because tensions remain high throughout the region, with fragile interruptions that take place after a months -long war in Lebanon and Gazi and the transitional government in Syria after Removal of President Bashar Al-Assad.
The leaders discussed “the unity of Syrian territories and the participation of all categories in Syria to determine their future,” said Sheikh Tamim.
Pezeshkian said Iran thanked Katar for his efforts for the mediation in providing a tribute between Israel and Hamas in Gaza after 15 months of Israel’s war.
The leaders also discussed the expansion of economic relationships.
“We have confirmed the need to explore more chances in the field of economy and trade between our countries,” said Sheikh Tamim.
Tohid Asada, a professor of politics at the University of Tehran, said the meeting was “critically important”.
“We heard two leaders put an emphasis on the need of peace in the region [and] about the need for spread [economic] Relationships, “Assadi said.
Sheikh Tamim was expected to meet with Ayatollah Khamenei, the Iranian spiritual leader and his highest authority, Assadi said.
