Tourists in the popular Portuguese city of Albufeira will soon be forbidden to wander the streets in the swimwear or face a strong fines.
The city on the beach in the southern region of Algarve, the favorite with British holidays, revised its code of behavior, explicitly banning people to be able to be partial or complete nudity in public spaces.
According to new plans, anyone wearing bikini or shirtless from the beach could be fined up to 1,500 euros (£ 1,250).
Albufeira is joined by a relatively long list of European cities with similar laws, including Barcelona, Dubrovnik and Nice.
The city boasts beautiful beaches and lively nightlife, but its reputation for the party for entertainment damaged the image of Albufeira.
Last year, eight British men were recorded dancing completely naked at a daylight at Rua da Our, the main party albufeira. Videos have become viral, and Portuguese police have been able to identify tourists.
This caused an emergency meeting with local council, security forces and companies, and Mayor José Carlos Rolo promised to break up in “excessive” tourist behavior.

The rules are spread to terraces that can be seen from public spaces, and business operators that have been found to have enabled bad behavior could also face significant fine.
The proposal is currently for public counseling, but it could be in time for the summer.
