PGA Tour: Rory McIlroy ‘Close’ from its best and satisfied with sharpness after the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM Victory | Golf news
Rory McIlroy believes he is “pretty close” to his best after winning the PGA Tour season with an impressive two hits with an AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM.
World no. 3 made the eagle and three birds growing in six holes on the way to the final round 66 on the signature of the PGA Tour, seeing him to end a week at 21 and two shots from the teammate of Ryder Cup Shane Lowry.
McIlroy’s 27’s 27 victory is his second win in the three world starts, and the sixth best four endings in the last seven appearances, with Northern Irish satisfied with the state of his game at the beginning of the year.
When asked how close he felt in top form, mcilroy Sky Sports said: “Yes, I’m close, I’m pretty close. I feel like I controlled the flight in the ball in the cross winds this week, I drove the ball very well.
“I think I will always Nitpick and there are always things about my game I want to try to improve, because that’s just what I am. I try to constantly get the most out of myself, but I also have to accept at the same time where my game is currently.
“It’s in really good shape and it’s probably sharp as always at the end of January, early February, moving in the season. So, really, really pleased where everything is.”
McIlroy entered the last round of shooting behind Sepp Strake and was in the leadership part until his back nine bird charge, with a stunning eagle in Par-Trapica 14. He pulled him beyond the congested plate.
“I talked a lot about this year trying to limit mistakes and try to keep large numbers and destructive swings from the map,” McIlroy added. “For the most part this week I did this. The game can start to become quite simple and feel pretty easy when you don’t make Bogeys.
“I know that I will hit enough good golf recordings to give myself an abundance of bird opportunities, it’s just a matter, that it gets weird and down to keep the circle and swing of the circle. This week.
“I think my short game was really good this week. I watched my short game last year, she was very, she was very volatile, very worse and down. I would have a few good weeks, but then I would have some bad weeks .
“These POA Annua Green at this time of year can be a bit ticklish and this week I didn’t really miss many short paths. It was the key to building a good result and at the end of the victory this week.”
Lowry: McIlroy ‘took over the control of’ tournament
McIlroy was four goals forward with three playing holes, but he saw his winning Margin halved Lowry’s fast ending, with five birds over eight holes that saw that Irish Sao Solo was a second ahead of Lucas Glover and Justin Rose.
“He [McIlroy] He is in control, “said Lowry, who played with McIlroy and Strak during the last round.” He drives the ball incredibly well, he always does. He controlled his ball today and put it nicely. It all came together.
“Today he was just playing great, he did it. He took control of the tournament. When I was making birds, he threw the birds back. Then he made an eagle 14 and that was pretty.”
Straka added: “He turned him on for his back. I asked him how much that was for him [wins] And 27 is quite amazing. I think he’s the most impressive player I’ve ever played with.
“He just hit him well, hit him far, but just as straight and how much he moved him away. That 14 hole is summarized, just riding a bomb down. We both hit seven there, but his seven iron and mine was seven wood.
Masters who come by ‘unstoppable’ mcilroy?
McIlroy’s main drought extends at the age of 11, which would equate the biggest gap between the big victories in men’s golf, although the victory in the early season increases the chances of claiming to claim the fifth major title 2025.
Speaking during the last round comment on Pebble Beach, ladies Laura Davies Sky Sports said: “Personally I think that [McIlroy] They will win Masters this year.
“I think he played so well at the end of last year, winning that tournament [DP World Tour Championship] the way he did. His wedge game is getting better, he is full of confidence.
“This is just another reinforcement of confidence, if he needs more. I don’t think anyone can put pressure on him not to put him on himself. He will be in the same position in which he has been in the last ten years, but I think his game is his game now in a really good position. “
She later added: “He played strategic golf. He played smart golf. He hit a lot of blows, felt shots. It just showed that every shot was in the game. If she decides to use it all year long, he would almost be unstoppable.
“As good as Scottie Scheffler, I still think – on their day and if they both play their best – Rory is just a little better. I mean: can she push Scheffler to the end limit this year?”
