The US Open starts its event of mixed couples a week before the start of the tournament, hoping that the renovated format and a $ 1 million prize will persuade top players of singles to persecute the title of Grand Slam Doubles.

Eight teams will earn a direct entry with their combined individual ladders, and eight other teams gave Wild Cards to the field.
There is a fear that a new event will squeeze out the dubs of experts who count on the Grand Slam Paycheques and now lose access to one of them.
To make up for this, Sherr said that the prize money awarded to 32 mixed couples at last year’s US Open will be diverted to male and female couples.
“Yes, there are some who will be disappointed that they will not have the opportunity to compete in this event,” Sherr said.
“On the other hand, we know that there is a huge opportunity to globally create more interest in pairs, and there may be a cascading effect here, that mixing creates more light male and female couples when we enter that part of the tournament.
“We will have to see how this is played, but we know that our mixed competition has historically competed with male and female single, so the fields have suffered and the attention has suffered. This is an opportunity to give it massively in the spotlight over two nights.”
