Missing a mountaineer from North Carolina, 73, was found dead in Great Smoky Mountains National Park
A missing 73-year-old mountaineer from North Carolina was found Great Smoky Mountains National Park Over the weekend, the official officials said.
Ann Houghton was found on Sunday about a quarter mile from Enloe Creek Trail, said the National Park (NPS) service. Houghton’s cause of death is not immediately given.
Houghton planned to walk in the park, which is cheering North Carolina and Tennessee, from January 28 to January 29, according to officials.
When Houghton failed to return on Saturday, officials said that the reported was gone.

Searches and saviors located Houghton’s vehicle on Chimney Camp And he started the search for a missing 73-year-old, NPS said.

Law and search and rescue staff focused their efforts on Bradley fork, Chasteen Creek, Hughes Ridge and Enloe Creek Trails. Several local agencies helped.

Houghton, from Jackson County, NC, has been volunteering at Great Smoky Mountains National Park for over 20 years, earning a nomination of 2022 for a Volunteer Service Award.

“Ann was a permanent and beloved member of our Smokies Community,” said Charles Sellars, an act of supervisor to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. “She was a dedicated volunteer and a passionate mountaineer who, with many visitors, shared a passion for the park. Great Smoky Mountains National Park sent condolences to her family and friends.”
