Growing up on the fifth generation farm of my family in Garretson, southern Dakota, I saw these challenges develop over the years and today, Farmers across the country Face some of the greatest ones so far.

Our family produces corn, soybean, lucher and small cereals – many crops that support our food supply and maintain our economy strong. But farms like our strong on each side become more extreme.

Over the past few years, the farm of my family has been fighting despite the long drought, while manufacturers in other areas of the country have been involved in floods and freezing. Actually, main disasters caused Over $ 21 billion crop losses for US farm only in 2023.

These types of events not only threaten the life means of farmers, but also in danger of the future of our farms and our families – threatening our ability to convey our country and the life of our lives to the next generation and lead to lower food production and higher costs for US consumers.

I grew up in the farm. My new movie celebrates Americans who really work for food

Good news? We have the right tools at our disposal for the preservation of our country and the protection of our business. Using preservation practices on our land, we can adapt to the challenges that set up extreme time events, improveing the resistance and sustainability of our business in the coming decades.

Bad news? Well, it seems like some in Congress wants intestines Programs that allow these tools into practice. And the current chaos in Washington left many farmers confused and insecure in what the future has – at a time when we need safety more than ever before.

If you are like me and lead the family farm, the beginning with the practice of preserving would usually be out of reach. However, federal preservation programs such as protection management (CSP) help closing the gap and providing the necessary technical and financial support – helping not only build our resistance to extreme time, but also enhances our essence.

But these programs are in danger now. With the freezing of federal consumption that left the courts in the limb, it is not clear whether the financing that was already promised to support farms would even reach them. And to make matters worse, some in congress also want to reduce how much money to farmers are available through them Preservation programs – Potentially diverting funds to other initiatives that would not deal with the serious challenges facing American agriculture and could now make food addicts imported from other countries.

Don’t get me wrong: I am a conservative, so I understand why the legislators look at any possible opportunity to control our consumption. But this chaos coming from Washington brings my job to danger.

At a time when farmers feel from painful blows of growing costs and historical disasters that have brought extreme time, we need our leaders to keep our promises and protect this funding that many of us are already counting on to protect our countries.

The construction of an extreme time resistance

If you need to be convinced of the value of these preservation programs, I invite you to look at my farm.

My family has always been dedicated to managing the land. We worked hard for generations to care for our soil, water and ecosystems, knowing that they were the foundation for a successful farm. However, as agriculture continues to develop, the methods we use to protect our country must also change.

This is where the preservation practices come. By accepting the trimming of the cover, the control of nutrients and the practice without any tulle, Farmers have a proven path To enrich our soil, a decrease in erosion and an increase in crops resistance despite extreme time threats.

Healthier soil means healthier crops, which turns into better yields and quality foods, fibers and fuel. Many farms have also been able to reduce fertilizer costs, reducing their environmental impact.

Trump’s agricultural selection confirmed that the president of the cabinet wins

Last year, our farm was approved for CSP funding, which we used to innovate on our farm, helping us maintain soil health and increase our line. Because of this program, we were able to plant crops and significantly reduce our tillage.

There is no doubt that these changes have made our farm – and many others – more resistant and will help us prepare to move through the challenges that unstable markets and extreme time He will continue to throw himself in the years to come.

Model for the future of agriculture

At the end of the day, for farmers like me, to be a good manager is just a good job. If you take care of the country, the country will take care of you – and my family’s farm is proof that the practice of preserving can improve our soil, strengthen our business and build our resistance at a time when we need more than ever before. This success simply could not happen without the USDA preservation program that allow farmers to make these changes.

Since extreme time made agriculture difficult, cutting these programs would leave us more vulnerable and less capable of production of food on which they depend on our community. We need constant support to keep this progress forward – and also my fellow farmers across the country.

I hope that our leaders in Congress can gather to stop current chaos, ensure that farmers get the funds that have been promised and protecting our constant investment in preservation – giving farmers the security we need during these challenging times. AND The future of our farmsOur families and our food depends on it.
