Fearing Trump will overcome the border to continue the cartel, Mexico moves into the reform of the Constitution


Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Thursday that she would propose constitutional reforms aimed at protecting the sovereignty of the country because of the concerns that the US army could cross the border to follow Mexican drug cartels.

Sheinbaum gave remarks after Trump’s administration determined six Mexican drug cartels as a foreign terrorist organization, deleting that President Donald Trump may establish an American military action in Mexico.

“The Mexican people will not under any circumstances accept interventions, mixing or any other act from abroad that could be harmful to the integrity, independence and sovereignty of the nation,” sheinbaum said.

Former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Sheinbaum’s predecessor, They have already entered the limitations of the law of how foreign agents can act in Mexico, limiting their independence and demanding that Mexican authorities be informed of their movements. Sheinbaum suggests that these boundaries be included in the Constitution.

“What we want to clearly explain to this mark is that we are not negotiating sovereignty,” Sheinbaum said. “This cannot be an opportunity for the United States to fall into our sovereignty.”

Sheinbaum also suggested a second reform of the Constitution to create sharp penalties for Mexican nationals and foreigners involved in weapons trade.
