The person in custody is the Afghan asylum seeker, who was previously known to the police for drug -related violations.
At least 28 people, including children, were injured, some of which were serious after the car entered a group of people in the German city of Munich, the authorities said.
The authorities did not give details on Thursday about the incident near the center of Munich, which took place around 10:30 (09:30 GMT), including whether the victims were intentionally affected.
Police said on the social platform X that the driver was “secured” at the scene and that he no longer pies any danger. At the scene, the damaged mini cooper could be seen.
The fire department said at least 28 people were injured, some of which were serious, the German DPA news agency reported.
Dominic Kane, Al Jazeera, reported from Wetzlar in Germany, said the driver of the car is an Afghan seeker for asylum, who was previously known to police for drug -related violations.
Kane also quoted Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soder, saying it was a “likely attack of the person concerned”.
Mayor Dieter Reiter said the incident was “deeply shocked”. He said the children were among the injured.
During the incident, a demonstration of the Union of Official Workers Ver.di was held. It was not immediately clear if the protesters were among the injured.
