Arsenal’s transfers job leaves Arteta ‘disappointed’ while Gunners persecute an elusive title

Arsenal leader Mikel Arteta remained frustrated for the lack of signature in January.

Gunners chief clearly made it clear that the club needed a new striker who would compete for the Premier League title.

But with a tame offering for Ollie Watkins and a contract for mathys tel never actually materialized, there is still a problem at the upper end of the field for Artea and Co.

Gabriel Jesus is with the injury, as is Bukayo Saka, while Kai Havertz provides hot and cold form.

Speaking to Carabao Cup Arsenal in front of the semi -final leg against Newcastle, Artea said: “We had a clear intention that was always when the window was opened to explore the possibilities to improve our team. We influenced the players with injuries and did not achieve this.

“We are disappointed in this regard, but we are also aware that we just want to bring certain types of players and we have to be very disciplined by the team.

“When you do your best and do things, you see people and share the same intentions, when you don’t achieve it in order, there are certainly things you need to learn from it.

“But you have to move on and it is a piece that was important at this point, but now we moved on.

“It’s in a profile, a player who can improve us. There are a lot of ways financially, a lot of things we have to stay in the lane that has taken us so far and from there we try to improve.”

Looking forward, Arteta will still have to be creative with his front line. Havertz, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli can all play in the role of attackers, and the Spaniards have to find a choice for writing if Gunners prevailed Newcastle on Wednesday night.

He added: “We will have to be flexible in the front line, the ones we have to be sure that they remain in shape and contributions, they can be played in that position.

“Raheem (Sterling) played in that position, Ethan (nwaneri) I think he can play in that position (Gabriel) Martinelli, so we look at how everyone is at the moment.

“But at some point I think we’ll have to try something different.”
