Yograj Singh, former cricketer and father Yuvraj Singhrecently profusely praised MS Dhoni because of his incredible game awareness and fearless approach to cricket. Speaking on “Unfiltered by Samdish,” Yograj highlighted Dhoni’s unique ability to read the pitch and direct the bowlers where they should bowl.
“I consider Dhoni a very motivated captain, who can tell people what to do. The best thing about Dhoni was that he could read the wicket and tell the bowlers where to bowl,” said Yograj.
Dhoni’s fearlessness on the field
Yograj also recalled an iconic moment from Dhoni’s career in Australia. He shared how Dhoni remained impassive after fast bowler Mitchell Johnson hit him on the grill of his helmet.
“If you remember, in Australia Mitchell Johnson hit him on the grill and he didn’t move a bit. He stood there, and on the next ball he pulled it for a six. Aise log kaafi kam hote hai (There are very few people like him),” said Yograj.
The former captain’s fearlessness and composure in high-pressure situations earned him respect across generations. Dhoni is often credited with changing the face of Indian cricket with his calm demeanor and sharp cricketing mind.
Controversial relationship with Dhoni
Interestingly, Yograj Singh’s relationship with Dhoni has been a topic of controversy in the past. In an earlier interview, Yograj had accused Dhoni of prematurely ending his son Yuvraj Singh’s career.
“That man (MS Dhoni) ruined the life of my son, who could have played for four to five more years,” claimed Yograj during an interaction with Zee Switch’s YouTube channel.
Despite the controversial remarks, Yograj’s recent praise for Dhoni underscores his admiration for the former Indian captain’s cricketing acumen.
Dhoni’s return to IPL 2025
Although Dhoni has retired from international cricket, fans will see him in action again during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain will once again lead his team and the tournament starts on March 14.
Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain ahead of the last IPL season but is expected to play a key role in their campaign this year. The veteran goalkeeper remains a fan favorite and is known for his ability to turn a game around with his tactical brilliance.
