Women’s ashes: England’s head coach Jon Lewis says that skills and disciplines, not fitness are guilty of serial defeat in Australia | Current news
Chief coach Jon Lewis says “discipline and skill level” are the reasons why England lost Women’s ashes rather than fitness.
England loses 10-0 points in Australia after five consecutive defeats, and tourists were defeated 3-0 in a one-day international match and then defeated in the first international matches of the T20.
Former English national team player Alex Hartley, now a BBC expert, has questioned the ability of the team after dropping out in the group stage at the T20 World Cup last October, criticism Lewis then rejected.
England’s selector admits that his team is not “athletic” as Australia, which he largely attributes to cultural differences.
But he is persistent that the difference between nations is the result of dominant Southern Stars, which were better at key moments.
Speaking on Saturday’s third and latest international games of T20 in Adelaide (8.10am UK and Ireland), Lewis said: “I would say Australia is a much athletic team than us, more agile, they look faster, sometimes they look more powerful.
“Is that the reason why we don’t win here in the crisis matches? No. I think their discipline and the level of skill were higher.
“It’s an area of a game we’re working on – all our players work. We work a lot on that.
“I hiked from Bondi to Coogee on the second Sunday morning and almost the entire Eastern Sydney suburb was swimming outside the sea, running and walking.
“There is also a cultural difference with Australia and England, so the comparison of these two nations is a little different.
“We definitely have to be faster and we can surely approach greater power. If you are talking about whether or not we can run marathons, we don’t have to do it. We need to be capable of our purpose.”
Australian versatile contestant Grace Harris made fun of England after the victory of her team at six rides in the Rainy T20 in Canberri, saying They wanted to “embarrass” rivals by series 16-0 – What will happen if they win in the T20 final and a day-to-day test in Melbourne from January 30th.
Lewis: We have grown bear bear
England returned 6-0 to draw in the previous Ashes 8-8 series at home in 2023, but the best result I can now reach 2025. Is a 10-6 defeat.
Lewis said, “If you look at Ashes 2023, I think we hit the bear a little. Australia went and reset. The result is bigger, but I don’t think it’s a difference.
“Last time, we got these critical moments in matches, and they turned them to their side in this series.
“We are obviously disappointed that we have not achieved results, but I think we were more competitive than the result suggests.
“I expected this to be real, a very difficult tour for us to come to compete and win.
“They are an exceptional team, they play on home field, they have been winning the world for a long time and we have a group of players in development.”
About my future as a coach, Lewis added: “I love this job and I am committed to making them a better team.”
