Venezuelan opposition leader defies Maduro to lead protests that end in confusing claims of arrests
Associates of Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said she was arrested on Thursday, followed moments later by an official denial of her arrest, in a confusing episode that capped a day of protests seeking to prevent President Nicolás Maduro from taking power. It remains unclear exactly what happened after Machado said goodbye to hundreds of fans, got on her motorcycle and sped off with her security convoy down Caracas’ main avenue.
