Twitter Reactions: Pratika Rawal, Tejal Hasabnis shine as India crush Ireland by six wickets in 1st ODI
India registered a a comfortable six-wicket win over Ireland in Ireland Women’s 1st Women’s ODI in India at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on Friday (January 10). Headed by Smriti MandhanIndia successfully chased down Ireland’s target of 239 with 93 balls to spare. Practice Rawal‘s composed 89 i Tejal Hasabnis‘ quick-fire 53 not out was crucial in securing the team’s triumph. Formerly Ireland captain Gaby Lewis she played a valiant knock of 92, helping her side post a respectable total of 238/7.
Pratika Rawal’s winning partnership with Tejal Hasabnis
Rawal’s outstanding innings of 89 runs off 96 balls stood as the cornerstone of India Women’s successful run chase against Ireland in the first ODI at Rajkot. Opening alongside Mandhana, Rawal showcased her class with a measured yet commanding performance. Her extras, peppered with 10 boundaries and a six, ensured India stayed ahead of the required rate despite losing wickets at regular intervals.
She showed excellent shot selection and adaptability, handling pace and spin with ease. Rawal’s 116-run partnership with Tejal Hasabnis for the fourth wicket proved decisive, steadying India after a mid-innings wobble. Her ability to find gaps and rotate the shot complemented her occasional power shots, leaving the Irish bowlers scrambling for answers.
Gaby Lewis is the anchor of the Irish innings
Earlier, Ireland captain Lewis led from the front with a blistering knock of 92 runs off 129 balls, providing a solid platform for her team. Lewis’ innings was characterized by her ability to hold one side while collecting runs through elegant drives and well-timed cuts. She found support at Leah Paulwho contributed a valuable 59 runs in his 117 runs for the fifth wicket.
However, Ireland’s inability to capitalize on this partnership at the death cost them a more imposing total. Lewis went down in the 44th, trying to accelerate, leaving the Irish lower-ranked with too much to do. Despite their efforts, a lack of hitting the boundary in the closing overs meant that Ireland finished on 238/7, a target that proved insufficient against India’s batting power.

India’s all-round bowling performance
The Indian bowlers produced a disciplined performance and restricted Ireland to a manageable total. Titas Sadhu and Deepti Sharma set the tone with early wickets, while Priya Mishra emerged as the best bowler with figures of 2/56, including the crucial dismissal of Lewis. Sayali Satghareon her WODI debut, impressed with her economy, conceding just 43 runs in her 10 overs and taking a wicket.
The bowlers were supported by a sharp fielding effort, including two critical run-outs that kept Ireland in check. Although there were occasional lapses in line and length, the Indian bowlers adapted well to the conditions and maintained the pressure throughout the innings. This concerted effort ensured that Ireland’s batsmen could not significantly accelerate in the final overs, allowing for a comfortable chase for the hosts.
Here’s how Twitter responded:
Richa ends it with a boundary. Comprehensive win for India. Ireland never had enough on the board for what the track was like. It started well with Mandhana and then Pratika and Tejal did well to ensure there were hardly any hiccups after two wickets fell in quick succession. #INDVIRE
