WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday that he said was aimed at “restoring free speech and ending federal censorship.”
Trump and his conservative allies have accused former President Joe Biden’s administration of stifling free speech on online platforms.
“Over the past 4 years, the previous administration trampled on the right to free speech by censoring Americans’ speech on online platforms, often by exerting significant coercive pressure on third parties, such as social media companies, to moderate, deplatform, or otherwise suppress speech that the federal government has not approved,” the White House said.
