Trump shared a funny video of a Greenlander asking him to ‘buy’ us from Denmark
President-elect Trump has stepped up his calls for the US to accept it ownership of Greenland in a fun social media post on Monday.
The move comes as the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., prepares to travel to Greenland on Tuesday. He will make the trip in a personal capacity and is not expected to meet with government officials.
In a post on Truth Social, President-elect Trump said he “heard that the people of Greenland are ‘MAGA’.” The Republican attached a video purportedly showing a Greenlander asking the US to buy his land.
“If you could say anything to Trump, what would it be?” a woman can be heard asking a man in the video.
“Buy us. Buy Greenland,” replied a man wearing a MAGA hat.
The Greenlander then added that he “loves Americans” and wants to break free from the Danish government.
“We don’t want to be colonized by the Danish government anymore,” he explained. “We are torn [off] every year [with] our minerals from Greenland. We are the richest nation in the world. And we don’t get to use it. Denmark is taking too much advantage of us.”
Trump confirmed in his message that it is plans to visit Greenland in the near future and that his son, Donald Trump, Jr., will soon be in the country. The president-elect said he plans to see some of the island’s “most magnificent areas and sights.”
“Greenland is an amazing place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our nation,” Trump wrote on Monday. “We will protect and nurture it from the very wicked outside world. LET’S MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump’s latest announcement comes two weeks after he first made headlines by voicing support for US ownership of Greenland.
“[F]or for purposes of National Security and Liberty throughout the world, the United States of America considers the ownership and control of Greenland to be an absolute necessity,” the president-elect’s post on Truth Social said.
In response, Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede expressed an interest in his country gaining independence from Denmark.
“The upcoming new election period must take these new steps together with the citizens, on the foundations that have already been created,” said Egede. “It is high time that we ourselves take a step and shape our future, also considering who we will work closely with and who will be our trading partners.”
Trump has been thinking about buying Greenland for several years. In 2019, he floated the idea of buying Greenland and called it a “big real estate deal.”
“A lot of things can be done. It hurts Denmark a lot because they lose almost $700 million a year carrying it,” Trump said at the time. “So they’re taking it with heavy losses, and strategically for the United States, that would be nice. And, we’re a great ally of Denmark and we’re helping Denmark, and we’re protecting Denmark.”
During an interview with “Fox News Sunday” about Trump’s remarks, then-White House chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow confirmed that the president’s sentiment was sincere.
“Greenland is a strategic place up there and has a lot of valuable minerals,” Kudlow explained at the time.

“I don’t want to predict the outcome. I’m just saying that the president, who knows a thing or two about buying real estate, wants to take a look.”
