Trump orders action against Colombia over rejected migration flights by investment.com
Investing.com – US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he was launching a series of actions against Colombia after the Colombian government turned away two US military flights carrying migrants.
Trump has ordered his administration to impose an “immediate 25% tariff on all goods coming into the United States,” which will rise to 50% in one week.
According to Trump, these measures are necessary because the decision of Colombian President Gustavo Petro puts American national security at risk. Dissuasive actions include tariffs, visa restrictions and other measures.
Trump announced his decision on his social media platform, true Social, stating that these actions are just the beginning.
“These measures are just the beginning. We will not allow the Colombian government to violate its legal obligations regarding the acceptance and return of criminals they have forced into the United States! ” Trump wrote about the truth Social.
He expressed disapproval of the violation of the Colombian government’s legal obligations regarding the acceptance and return of migrants allegedly forced to the US
Earlier on Sunday, President Petro said his government would not accept flights carrying deported migrants from the US until the Trump administration establishes a protocol that ensures they are treated with dignity.
Petro’s announcement came in two posts, one of which featured a news video showing migrants allegedly deported to Brazil walking on asphalt with hand and leg restraints.
