Trump announced that the Gulf of Mexico will get a new, pro-American name


President-elect Donald Trump announced that the Gulf of Mexico would get a new name.

“We’re going to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of Mexico, which has a beautiful ring to it. It covers a lot of territory,” Trump said on Tuesday. “American Gulf. What a beautiful name. And it’s fitting.”

Trump made the announcement at his first news conference since Congress confirmed his election victory over Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday from Mar-a-Lago. He opened the press event by announcing that DAMAC Properties will invest $20 billion in new data centers across the country while previewing a range of policy issues ahead of his inauguration this month.

Gulf of Mexico is a partially landlocked sea bordering states such as Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, as well as Mexico.

Trump did not detail how his administration would go about renaming the body of water, but he criticized Mexico over immigration problems in the US under the Biden White House.

“Mexico has to stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country. They can stop them. And we’re going to put very serious tariffs on Mexico and Canada, because Canada, they’re also coming through Canada, and the drugs coming in are in record numbers, record numbers, so we’re going to make up for that by putting tariffs on Mexico and Canada, significant tariffs,” he said.

Trump called Canada the “51st country” while his son and other Trump allies traveled to Greenland this week after Trump repeatedly called for the US to gain an autonomous territory under the Kingdom of Denmark.

“As someone who has traveled to some fascinating places around the world as a backpacker, I’m excited to stop by Greenland this week for some fun,” Donald Trump Jr. told Fox News Digital about his trip to Greenland.
