Tottenham are considering a bargain January move for the £54,000-a-day star of “pure quality”

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou he is now tracking the midfielder who could be available for a bargain fee this month, according to the report.

Tottenham is fighting for a place in the Premier League

Tottenham have recorded some impressive wins this season, thrashing Manchester City 4-0 away at the end of November, while also making an impressive run to reach the semi-finals of the EFL Cup.

However, Postecoglou’s side have struggled for consistency, recently hampered by a defensive injury crisis that left the manager with just one fit centre-back for a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

As such, the manager may need to step up this month to get his side’s season back on track, with Spurs now interested in bringing in players in a number of different positions.

With so many defenders injured, the Lilywhites may have to enter the market for a centre-back and are now believed to have opened talks over a deal for Borussia Monchengladbach Like Ikatura.

Tottenham are now negotiating a move for the “incredibly quick” new defender

Ange Postecoglou wants to strengthen the defense this winter.

Postecoglou is also personally handling the deal for a new striker, and could look to make a move to one of his previous clubs, with Nicholas Kuhn from Celtic who are believed to be of interest after a prolific first half of the season in Scotland.

Now Spurs are also being linked with a move for the new midfielder, with GiveMeSport reporting that they are closely following Lyon’s Maxence Caqueretwhich could be available this winter for a good fee. The 24-year-old, who is said to earn £54,000-a-week, could be available for a cut-price this month, with Lyon in dire financial straits and Tottenham waiting at the end to take full advantage.

There will be competition from others Premier League clubs, however, whose rivals West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Everton have also been listed as potential suitors.

An intriguing opportunity for Tottenham

Should Lyon be forced to cash in on the Frenchman this month, Spurs should not hesitate to make an approach, given how impressive he is as a versatile midfielder.

The Lyon star is in the 96th percentile for successful takeovers and 91st percentile for tackles at 90 over the past year, compared to his peers in the position, highlighting his ability both on the front foot and in defence.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has also been full of praise for the maestro in the past, describing him as “pure quality and intelligence mixed with incredible speed of work”.

Lyon’s loss could be Tottenham’s gain if they are forced to sell this winter, and Postecoglou should continue to monitor how the situation develops over the next few weeks.

However, with Spurs still struggling for defensive numbers due to the huge number of injuries they have suffered, signing a new centre-back should remain Postecoglou’s priority this month.
